I'm constantly amused by the semi-revival of vinyl we've been seeing for a while now. Not opposed, just amused. |

I find it silly. Lossless digital I can understand, but there's so many disadvantages to the vinyl (most of which honestly have to do with the needle) that don't make it worth it outside of collecting.

Considering the fact that it's limited to a mere 500 copies, I'd say that's really the point. It's just some cool, limited edition merchandise for people who are both music and Pokemon lovers. |

This is only happening because there are a bunch of audiophiles who want the "warmth" of vinyl(or some other crock) and will argue until the cows come home that it's somehow better than digital.
At least it's not like the people who insist on uncompressed audio: they have half a point in that bit-starved lossy codecs will produce artifacts in the audio stream, but in each and every application short of music CDs there's a lossless codec available. |

Not sure if this is a legit release... Moonshake records are notorious bootleggers. Is there any indication that this is properly licensed from Nintendo etc?

While it won't have much value for reselling at an auction, the Poké Ball vinyl soundtrack does make good for a collector's item.
...although, it would help if there's a phonograph or jukebox nearby. |

Vinyl sales have seen a resurgence in the UK in the past few years, so it's nice to see more stuff cropping up for collectors. Unfortunately, as others have already pointed out, this doesn't seem to have been authorised by Nintendo.
How disappointing. |

That is one very stylish record...but the artwork definitely points to it not being legit, between Mario characters being on it, the lack of an accent mark over the "E," and the "Gotta Catch 'Em All" slogan Nintendo dropped long ago and only digs out in low-key ways. Even the Super Bowl commercial, a thoroughly Generation I throwback, focused on training over collecting.

As one of those who have both Anime & Audio as a hobby this is a neat thing, pity it appears to be a bootleg.
For the record, Analog Audio such as Vinyl can produce a sound with a characteristic "Warmth" that Digital does not by it's very nature have. It's this sound that some people find more appealing. Noise isn't a factor. I understand that a similar warmth can be gotten using Vacuum Tube based Digital to Analog converters. ( Yes that is a thing, pricey they are! ) Me, I use all of them Analog & Digital sources. Mark Gosdin |

I brought one directly from the person who made these a while ago (for only $20) and while it is a bootleg just like all of the other vinyls they produce a majority of the money goes directly to Junici Masuda (minus manufacturing costs) so while it is a bootleg the original artist is getting the money.

Rather disappointed that ANN (who usually has the better reporting) failed to point out that this is unlicensed/bootleg, whereas Crunchyroll did.
Until reading the comments here, I thought that maybe CR was wrong after all. |
