Damn.....
Well I hope they revoke this decision in the future. Been wanting to purchase some Vinland Saga volumes beyond the 7th volume.

I can only preorder so hard personally. All I can do is try to recommend and push others into the series from here on I suppose.
It is a shame that Vinland Saga's localisation is in a bad position again but we can get through this. Yukimura's work needs to be seen.

It's a great series, I just don't have the money though so I only have the first volume. .
Really thought it would be able to release all volumes no problem at first...

I've been buying every volume so far and preordered 2 volume 7's (one for me and one for my local library). Let's hope this great localization doesn't die.

The announcement strikes me as a little... odd. It seems a decision has already been made. They just don't want to say which.
Either the decision has been made to can the series, in which case no amount of preordering would help. It would have to be pretty phenomenal number of orders to reverse a decision like that. As a decision would have been made on overall series sales, and preorder sales isn't really going to change that. That would just make this a last ditch effort on their part to get a few dollars out of the series.
Or the decision is already made to continue. In which case they can have a feel-good story that the fans made the series continue and hopefully raise sales.
I think the most likely option is the former unfortunately. Not entirely unexpected though as I never collected the series, thinking exactly this would happen. It seems hardcover manga never do all that well. I am expecting the same from Wandering Son, although I have been collecting that one. Despite the fact that the series is now complete in Japan, Fantagraphics is only midway and already dropping way off on the output. Two volumes last year, only one this year. I will be surprised if they announce volume 9.

I can't afford to preorder anything else ATM. However after my Christmas holiday cheque I was going to grab a couple of volume's of Vineland to see all the hype. Now I'm reconsidering...

I have vol. 7 on preorder and this is one of my favourite manga ever which is why i'd be very sad if it got cancelled. But on the other hand i can understand that people have become a bit cautious when it comes to buying unfinished series because of previous bad experiences. It's a bit of a vicious cycle really...

Was just thinking last night about whether to start this series or not. Guess I'll have to pre order quickly, always such a shame when a series gets stopped part way through.

I blame Kodansha USA on this mess, it seems like they never marketed the series and the only titles that get more exposure are the ones with anime adaptation like Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, Sailor Moon, Seven Deadly Sins and Noragami. Also releasing it in a hardcover oversized 2-in-1 format is such a risky move.
I only found out about Vinland Saga because it is one of the top manga in MAL and I've been collecting the series since Volume 1 came out. I really appreciate Kodansha made it available in physical format and I'm really sad to find out the situation it is in right now. Hopefully they'll continue it when an anime adaptation happens. I'm really surprise there isn't any anime for this yet since they have enough chapters for a 2 to 3 cour series, if they will do it I wish Madhouse or ufotable to produce it.

Well they cant blow their budget on marketing a bad manga that clearly has not taken off. Their only savior would be if this series got an anime. The titles you list all received an anime and got popular in america cause of them. Though people could say its a berserk clone so theres no interest ir appeal in this manga.

They didn't even made an effort to market it especially for a series with a MSRP of $20. It is not a bad series, it won multiple awards. The only comparison I notice with Berserk are the attention to details and extreme violence, and Berserk is dark fantasy whereas Vinland Saga is based on the Vikings age. Maybe if the author added sexy monster/loli or just fan service then people would have taken notice of it LOL.

I'm certainly not surprised. If you're even slightly familiar with the Planetes manga, and you've watched the Planetes anime, then you probably know how the anime adaptation added tons of one-note characters, added slapstick/bizarre comedy, changed extremely important key scenes, and overall displayed no respect whatsoever to the original story inked by Yukimura.
I'm disappointed of course with this news, but honestly, they've tried. I'm thrilled to have volume 6 and I have 7 on pre-order. If there's not enough interest to continue then of course I'm disappointed, but I won't hold anything against Kodansha. They've done an absolutely wonderful job with the series and have produced a quality product I'm very happy to own.

Our publishers can wait years for George RR Martin to release Winds of Winter, but not for the Japanese.

Hmm, i'm not at home right now, so i can't check, but i seem to remember an afterword in one of the previous volumes where he more or less complained about the lack of interest from anime producers.
