Wow this actually is interesting! I didn`t realize how much female history fans have grown! Although then again I really shouldn`t because I`m a major history buff myself. Even surprised my family when I could guess what type of Japanese sword my brother has...

Nihon Ken can also translate to "Japanese Dog" when referring to the 6 revered spitz breeds: Ainu/Hokkaido, Akita, Kai, Kishu, Shikoku, and Shiba.

When I read Nihon-ken I immediately reminded of the dogs. Japanese swords are more commonly called Nihontou 日本刀 than Nihonken 日本剣 after all :/

Well good on these women. There's no reason why they shouldn't get to learn about history. I laughed at them having a crush on Sakamoto Ryōma but it is a good thing, as the man was intelligent, had democratic ideals, respected human rights, and dedicated his life to fighting against feudalism.

Thanks for pointing this out! I had went with the translation from one of the sources, but now that you've shown the kanji, I can see that it was a mistake and should be Nihontou. I've corrected the article.

Related to that is how Comiket has a slight female majority attendance and I'd read how most of the doujinshi sold target women, tracked by circle booths and comiket catalog. I'm sure rekijo accounts for a large portion of Sengoku Basara's fanbase too

Since dogs have been brought up, my avatar is a black Tosa Inu, a large Mastiff-type breed from Kochi City that was breed for dog fighting and they use it in doggy sumo wrestling there. While the Akita is the largest Japanese spitz breed, the Tosa is the largest Japanese breed overall.

Definitely explains all the Shinsengumi love and Sengoku period love... Then again I have found myself trapped by Hakuouki's gorgeous portrayals.

Historically, the Akita was reserved to the upper class which would include samurai who are romanticized with the sword.
