Just me, or did there seem to be a very small crowd for the premier?
Anyway, I hope we get to hear a bit about how the Japanese view this new movie. I've yet to see it myself, but I looked at some reviews and a lot of them seem mixed. Hope to see it once it's out on BD. |

Not sure what all the reviews said, but the movie was a blockbuster. Godzilla and Captain America both were the early blockbusters of the summer season |

I wonder how many kids, Godzilla's target audience, the film will actually draw in Japan. Everything I've read so far says it's mostly old men going to see the film out of nostalgia. It certainly is a different take on the character so I could see if kids are turned off by it.

enurtsol: We're talking totals, it's got a lot of competition. But it did open #1 that weekend in Japan.

Ah, Godzilla projections are around $30-40 million in Japan. Though this weekend it'll be dethroned by Rurouni Kenshin. Still, it has already done much better than the last Japanese Godzilla films and others:
So more Japanese would've seen this Godzilla than went to the last several films. ![]() |

I was wondering how the Japanese feel about Hollywood's latest attempt at doing "Godzilla" but reading some of the things here seem to have answered my question. But I have another one. I'm wondering if the Japanese saw the commercial we did in which Godzilla was hawking Snickers bars?

Well with Youtube (and the internet), it's not that hard to find that commercial. To eunrtsol: Thanks for the info/stat. |

It is nice to see the return of the King. It was a good movie to see and I was even on the edge of my seat at some points. This movie was a nice faithful adaption and tribute to the series, and I hope the Japanese feel the same way.
