It's unfortunate that Hajime no Ippo never did become popular here, but it looks like were going to get Tenchi OVA.
Completely agree with ya there love to see some old school Lupin. Also as for the Trigun OVA is this going to be like Hellsing where were starting over again or are we going to get new OVA on the material that wasn't ever anime. Also no new licenses, I was hoping to hear that Claymore was picked up....or possibly Monster. |

They were actually asked specifically about Monster, given the nature of some of the other titles they've done/are doing. They said they want to pick it up, but there are concerns about how well it would actually sell in North America. For them to argue a strong case to their management about pursuing it, they said, they would have to be able to show evidence that titles of that nature will sell adequately, and they specifically mentioned Master Keaton as an example of that. (And yes, they realize that the two series are entirely different animals, but that's not how it would look to upper management.) As for Claymore? That question didn't come up in the Geneon panel, and the FUNi guy said that FUNimation is not, at this time, pursuing it (although that doesn't mean they won't in the future). |

Damn, reports from ADV, Funi and Geneon. None of whom announced Ouran H.S. Host Club. I'm going to bet that they are going to torture us with anticipation until Anime Expo.
BTW - They would be stupid if they didn't re-release the Original Tenchi. |

I would really like to see how the Karin box looks. I'm guessing its pretty typical given how Geneon doesn't really try to do anything outside of the box (no pun intended) in terms of LE releases. The Rozen Maiden and Black Lagoon LEs both look a little different from the norm, so I had a small glimmer of hope for Karin. Regardless, I already pre-ordered it.
With enough buzz I think that Monster could be a good selling title. I thought that Le Chevalier D'Eon was a pretty low-key title, but it generated buzz off of quality alone. Monster, being as good as it is, can do the same thing just as long as Geneon doesn't resign it to being low-key before it even comes out like Zipang. |

Yeah they would I was hoping someone swooped in and was able to get the license, just more wishful thinking.
Wow I didn't even know that it was on their radar at all. I always thought that there was some sort of complication with the license because of the New Line movie license, so Geneon actually want to pick it up....very intersting 
As for the Master, sure you could draw comparison but anime was a completely different beast, with the success of [AS] and now with more channels jumping on the bandwagon there certainly is a bigger opportunity for Monster now I think. Also lets not forget that most everyone overlooked Master Keaton at first because we all saw that ridiculous trailer and thought how stupid. But then again it's hard to cut a trailer for MK it's just such a different story altogether, once most of us heard of Monster we went back and looked at Urasawa work and decided to take a chance on the Master. And I'd have to think that more people know about MK after the Geneon sale I am sure people pick up some of the DVD then. I guess we can look at Yawara when that get's released from Animeigo, but like Keaton there just so different from Urasawa newer works like Monster, 20th Century Boy, and Pluto. There little bits of piece of those original works sprinkle in there but the tones are so different and so dark. |

Tenchi in Tokyo isn't an OVA, it's a TV series, that was a complete waste of time and money to make. Take my advice and don't waste anymore money re-releasing it again, as you won't get it back.

The impression the FUNi rep gave about this one is that Ouran is one of their most sought-after titles that they don't already have, and he gave the impression that multiple different companies are bidding on that one. It seems likely you'll hear something more about it before the summer 'con season is over, as the FUNi rep strongly implied that FUNimation will have a lot more to announce over the summer once they get some deals finalized. (Expect big news at A-Kon and/or Anime Expo, for instance.) And Heretic: The Rozen Maiden and Black Lagoon boxes/cases are a lot different from the norm; in fact, as I implied in another panel-related thread, the next few months should see several creative boxes come out. The box for Karin, unfortunately, isn't one of them; it's pretty typical. Same for When They Cry - which, I would also add, is going to have 5 eps on the first volume because the Geneon staff felt that the series takes a little longer than the norm to truly get a viewer wrapped up in the story, and they wanted to make sure that happened with the first volume. They have high hopes for that one. |

That's... really disappointing to hear. But yeah... when I think about it, it's a high-end 74-episode TV series (meaning that the license is probably... not cheap... then production will be expensive as well)... The only way this would work is if they got it on TV and released it to video in the same format that the Japanese and French did (box sets). So... I guess out only hope now is if Monster wins the Eisner; if it doesn't, I can pretty much assume that we're screwed. |

Sort of but at the same time it's also sort of exciting, it's kind like a small flame flickering in the wind, sure it's not strong but it might make it.
Completely agree with you there, also you'd could probably try releasing this series sub only (like Yawara) to help cut the cost. But damn I would love to have those Japanese Preminum boxes, because damn those are so sweet. There really was a lot of effort put into the releases. Hell Monster was running for so long it's actually got VHS release you can buy.
Yeah lets hope so, it's certainly got some decent competition although it certainly is the best of those nominated. I wonder if companies are just waiting for information on the Movie or it's actually going to move into the production stage.
