Limited release? Does this mean America won't get it in all theaters?

So, uh... I saw this film in Japanese theaters, so maybe I'm missing something... But I don't remember any modern boy band music...?

Disney adds pop songs to commercial and ending themes. Ponyo had the two unpopular Cyrus and Jonas kids, Arietty had some other Disney channel star. |

It depends on who they're marketing for. If any songs contain vocals in Japanese, they might be gone, but didn't the re-releases of Kiki and Laputa restore the Japanese songs in the English dubs?

I couldn't watch this without the Japanese theme song:
Yumi Matsutoya's 1973 song Contrail / Hikōki-gumo / ひこうき雲. Live performance from 2013 (with YMO bass player Haruomi Hosono): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6EiDukmy9s (The song also has a strong tie-in with Mitsubishi, being used in their advertisements on Japanese television). She also sang the songs that were used as the opening and themes of Kiki's Delivery Service, opening theme Message In Rouge / ルージュの伝言 / Ruuju No Dengon; and ending theme, If Enveloped In Tenderness / やさしさに包まれたなら / Yasashisa Ni Tsutsumareta Nara. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQPLtAvR2BQ Last edited by omiya on Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:23 am; edited 2 times in total |

Man, this looks like a great film. Hoping it lives up to the hype.

Well, some co-workers and I plan to see it at one of the theaters playing around the city. Of course I don't understand why everyone is puzzled about the one week screening. Isn't that usually how it works? Most screenings at some festivals are a one day engagement. A week is probably enough for something like this. I wonder how long Mononoke was in the theater when it was released nationwide?

Aaahahha, I feel the same way as a few people about the trailers' music selection. This is how we do it though.
Hopefully, in the future, I'll see it. |

Uuuuuuugh *shudder shudder*. Sadly I remember this too. My niece used to laugh at my hatred of the Ponyo song. Yet she was stalking the Japanese kid vocalist and hoping to marry Miyazaki. Until sensibility kicked in sometime later, she finally expressed that she doesn't like Ponyo anymore and denied her desire to marry an older man. Ah, isn't the way of growing up grand? I hadn't even gotten 10 seconds in before I quit. But this film looks gorgeous. I definitely look forward to it. |

You really have to get use to what they have in mind. I wish Disney was like they were in the 80's when they weren't churning out pop stars.
Most people aren't Art House material.
I'm sure my town will get it on the 28th anyway, there's only one theater designated for the Art House/Indie crowd and that's on the south end where I hardly go. |

Oh, if the wider release is on the 28th, that'll be the day I'll actually have money in my bank account oh-so-briefly, so I might get a chance to see The Wind Rises on the big screen after all.
Maybe I'll go and see it on Oscar Sunday. Had no plans on watching that. |

I think it's amazing that they don't have any of their disney teen stars doing some cheesy voices
