This just in... A poster at the Team Xbox forums just mentioned that Ubi Soft is going to make a Naruto game for the Xbox 360, and 1up.com has verified the news.

Here's the press release in full:
Quote:
Paris, FRANCE – April 6, 2006 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it has signed a strategic non exclusive licensing agreement with TV TOKYO Corporation and SHUEISHA Inc., to develop games based on the hugely popular Naruto anime series for the Microsoft Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The new titles will be available in North and South America and European territories in 2007.

With Naruto, Ubisoft will develop for the first time a game based on a Japanese property. Naruto was first launched as part of SHUEISHA’s weekly manga magazine in 1999 and Naruto manga books have sold more than 50,000,000 copies in Japan alone. Manga books are published in the US and major territories of Europe as well. Naruto anime series debuted on TV TOKYO in 2002 and has already spawned several successful video game titles in Japan as well as multiple character merchandise and two movies. Now, Naruto anime is aired with tremendous success on Cartoon Network in the US

NARUTO takes place in a world where ninja are the ultimate power. Uzumaki NARUTO is a ninja-in-training who is learning the art of ninjutsu with his classmates Sakura and Sasuke. The trio studies under the instruction of their teacher, Kakashi, who helps the group face a series of dangerous and daunting tests and challenges. Through their adventures, the young ninjas learn the importance of friendship, teamwork, loyalty, hard work, creativity, ingenuity, and right versus wrong.

“Naruto will broaden our portfolio and contribute to achieving our strategic goal of earning 25% of our turnover through licences,” said Christian Salomon, Director of Worldwide Licensing at Ubisoft. “Naruto is part of a wave of Japanese manga and anime that appeals to kids and adolescents alike, and we plan to deliver them every bit of the excitement they have experienced in Naruto’s books, movies and TV shows.”

“I’m confident Ubisoft will manage to create an exciting Naruto game, while respecting the anime’s spirit of passing on positive values and a lot of fun” said Hayato Date, Naruto anime series director.

As a Naruto fan and a proud Xbox 360 owner, my head is so overflowed with joy that this will eventually happen:

So, any comments? Is this newsworthy, or is it going to be Dragon Ball Z Sagas over again?

Wow, that was quick. Not even a half hour passed after I broke the news, and this is up on the front page! Thanks, guys! Cool

Now, is it me, or does the thought of a Naruto/Splinter Cell crossover give me the creeps? I don't see Naruto and Sam Fischer working well together... Confused

Be sure to spend $5 on Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved in the Xbox Live Arcade. You'll thank me later. Cool

Allright, just one more thing before I put this to rest. Here's a link to the press release off of Ubisoft's website.

This makes me think that Microsoft made the deal between the two to increase Xbox 360 sales in Japan, which I only assume aren't very good.

*takes a drink of soda and does a spit take outside, rushes back in*

Anyway, this now gives me a new reason to get a 360....unless the game bombs. If it does...i aint gonna waste my money....

The odd thing is, this game is currently set for release in North America and Europe only. Perhaps Bandai will publish it in Japan if it's good...

Wowsers. I'm not an X-box person, but this is definitely good news for the X-box owning anime fans who are tired of not having any anime-based games available.

This probally isn't gonna make it to Japan.Atari made the beautiful Armada Transformers game and TAKARA in Japan didn't release but instead releases Transformers Tatakai! which is G1 based, and this game is a Japan Exclusive.Though Namco-Bandai will probally say the their are too many flaws and say that their games are better...
