My sister (12 years younger than me) was only a teenager and has had a boyfriend online for years now. She's gone up to meet him a couple of times. He seems like a good guy. She's 18 now and still very serious about the whole thing and I'm fairly certain she will go through with marrying him eventually when they are able to finish college. I know some people talk negatively of remote relationships and I think there is some validity to it, but in a VR environment like the one in this show most of those issues are really not even there. Additionally, they've been together on and off for 2 years with some major events. I think we've been missing out on some relationship development, which is unfortunate, but I liked the side-stories unlike others so I wouldn't want to redo it. Perhaps it would have been nice if this series was longer, I don't know if the content they have cut at this point would have made it better or not though. I think the anime is doing a good job with most things. My sister and I both like it quite a bit. |

18 for men, 16 for women, both need parental consent until 20 so very relevant. |

Marriage is a game mechanic. Obviously we're supposed to assume that these kids are serious about each other and would probably try to meet up in real life when/if they escape, but the legality of the matter is irrelevant since they're not legally married.
Regarding meeting each other over the internet... two of my guildmates in Warcraft met each other through the game and they're married now (in real life), so it seems pretty reasonable to me. In the end, how you meet is pretty much irrelevant, and in a full VR situation like SAO it's not like they aren't seeing each other face to face every day. |

Seriously guys, can we not talk about the glop? Honestly that's the most disgusting thing I've read about in a while,
![]() AS for the spoiler[their marriage, it's not just a game mechanic for these two. They are LIVING in the world, so it's not the same as long-distance MMO relationships we have in the real world. To them, that is the real world. The anime tries to point this out several times. And as much as I think the marriage may have been a plot point that the author wanted to use for his own fantasy desires, it ironically comes across as very plausible. In very high tense life threatening situations human-beings are less likely to be as non-serious about life. Think about how people are in places were mortality rates are very high and average ages are low. They don't mess around. Cus they know they may not have a lot of time. It's the same reason why girls were often married by the age of 12 up until only recently historically in industralized countries (recently meaning up to 100 years ago or so). Average life expectancy was around 30-40 years.)] |

I agree, but spoiler[my point about it being a game mechanic is that the legality of their marriage in Japan is irrelevant. Since they're not getting married in Japan. They're getting married in SAO, using its game mechanics. It certainly represents something important to them, but it's not legally binding so all this talk about marriage is completely irrelevant.] |

The thing here is that this is not seen as "cheating". Kirito is the protagonist, we're "living" the story through him. If it turned out that Asuna had a boyfriend or she (God forbid) was not a virgin, things might have been different. |

The way I see it is as long the self-insert MC gets the girl who hasn't had anyone else before him, then it's an approved official couple. Of course they could also be buying in attempt to get A-1 Pictures to animate that infamous Chapter 16.5.

guilds don't have a huge command of what you do outside of its events and scheduled times. they can post rules to abide by but keeping you from doing something against their rules pretty much amounts to threat of expulsion from the guild.which means loosing the perks that said guild enjoys. special items, camaraderie, events, protection, guild pricing,connections...etc...
events and scheduled stuff like hunting notorious monsters for drops usually need pre-scheduling because slots are limited so people sign up to have a spot in advance. most guilds expect you to show up for what you've signed up for. in SAO being a front lines person would mean you have greater ability to survive in combat (this makes you a guild asset) the threat of expulsion for assets is a bad way to run a guild. but in the case of SAO they seem to be adding the Japanese warriors way of thinking to the guilds. sort of like the samurai code of honor which muddies the waters in how the characters react to guild life and orders from the guild head. usually the more talented and compatible the player is the more guilds bribe them to join and stay. with position, items and freedom to do stuff they want: IE start events or plan scheduled stuff while drawing on the guilds membership to do so. anyways one thing that really bothered me about the last episode was spoiler[ when they handed over the teleport crystals NO-ONE in a game where your actual life could be extinguished and has survived as long as they have as well as Kirito being a PPKer would ever give up their personal safety on someone else's whim to test your courage so to speak. ]they really should have come up with a better way to deal with them than they did. |

I agree, that was a pretty clumsy plot point. spoiler[Obviously the writer needed to get rid of them for the following event to occur, but the implementation was anything but elegant.] |

Episode 11
spoiler[So those two got married... It was nice watching them relax & enjoy time off. Mystery girl from the woods was interesting. A player, yet not quite.. Seems like those two got an instant family now ^^ Although it was nice, it still felt like a wasted episode. The only thing that improved it was that little clash with the soldiers.] |

I agree that episode 11 was very meh... I wouldn't necessarily call it awful, but it was very uneventful and seems to have slowed down the plot right when it was starting to pick up a bit. It sort of feels like a return to the side story stuff from before. I understand that spoiler[the little girl Yui is probably involved in the plot], so i'm assuming it was necessary to have a whole episode more or less revolving around her, but I didn't really feel the level of intrigue that I think I should feel due to the introduction of a key mysterious character like her.
