For a hardcover art book, that's really not bad at all. Ipaid around $40+ for others. Always worth it. |

Nintendo has always been so tight lipped about it, I thought there'd never be an official chronology. This is guaranteed to piss off the 3/4 of people who subscribe to any of the other theories. |

Considering that the timeline was revealed in the Japanese version of the guide, and so is fairly well known by now, I really haven't heard that much complaints. Because it makes sense, and no one really thought of how it all worked out.
For those who do want to know, the Zelda wikia has it all here. I won't spoil those who want to wait. |

Like I said, I'm cheap.  I'll wait months for the library to get a CD that has a single song I want rather than spend $1.29 on it on iTunes. Anything over $15 for a single book seems expensive to me, even though it's probably a perfectly justifiable price.

Now I'm curious, as I read elsewhere that it was 272 pages and coming out Jan 29 (in fact the source link says the same), so are the numbers in the ANN article the actual ones, then? Either way, I'm super excited that this is finally being released in English! And that's a pretty darn good price for this sort of book, I think, so that's even better!

Eh...It is mostly solid despite a few glaring flaws. Putting the Four Swords games as anything but a trilogy is just ridiculous. What's more, that trilogy makes very little sense anywhere but the post-Wind Waker "New Hyrule" era. I'm also quite skeptical about them putting all the older games on a separate timeline when they could just go on the end of the child timeline. Although with those exceptions, this is about as solid a timeline as you're gonna get. |

Actually, no, it doesn't work to put those games there.
spoiler[In A Link to The Past, it is clearly said that the Sacred Realm was sealed away to trap Ganon there. Considering that the Child Timeline has Ganon defeated, and therefore the Sacred Realm is NOT sealed away, ALttP and the other games CANNOT take place in the Child Timeline.] |

Not quite. spoiler[When Zelda turns back time Gannondorf, the mortal who doesn't yet have the triforce, is captured and imprisoned. (As seen in Twilight Princess). I would argue however that Ganon (the immortal, triforce powered monster that Gannondorf became) still exists independently within the sacred realm. See, Ganon (again, not the same as Gannondorf) supersedes any time travel shenanigans. He must. After all, if he didn't, if Ganon could be gotten rid of simply by turning back time then why would they even need to defeat/seal him? Zelda could have just got the ocarina from Link the moment he woke up and turned back time to before Gannondorf got the triforce. But no. Evidently it's not as simple as that. So no. I would say that at the end of Ocarina, even in the child timeline, Ganon still exists and is still in the sacred realm. (This is probably the reason Gannondorf suddenly gets the triforce in Twilight Princess by the way). This is also why, at some point, an evil power starts to flow from the sacred realm prompting the king to order the seven wise men to seal it (as described in the beginning of LttP).] So no, Link to the Past actually can fit just fine in the child timeline. |
