Hmm...I live a mere half hour train journey away from London...might have to check it out if I get the chance.

A lucky so and so. In such a time I'll only have managed to board a direct train prior to its departure.
It is interesting that a café near Earl's Court was selected for inclusion within this film, given that international tourists tend not to venture further west than Knightsbridge on most occasions. (A pity as well; they'll miss the bounties of Shepherd's Bush!)

So is the owner still confused as to why they've been getting so many Japanese tourists lately, or was it explained to her at some point?

It's actually nice that J-animators take the time to do "location scouting," though in this particular case, a small tea shop that could look any other, an imagined sketch may be a more reasonable alternative than going across the globe, unless they're already there to do other location shootings.

They do location scouting all the times. There are some Japanese books (I have a copy) that points actual locations referenced for various anime titles (mostly Japan). The best thing is that it helps out local businesses. More unknown, the better.

Macross Frontier re-imagined San Francisco's Powell street for their BG, but I wonder how many fans know about it.

Hi. We are delighted that so many Japanese tourists are taking the time to visit The Troubadour in Earls Court to see the K-ON film graphic in its correct location. Many other tourists come to visit the legendary Troubadour Club downstairs which has hosted such famous musician as Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and more recently Adele, Morcheba, Jamie T and Pete Doherty. The Troubadour was established in 1954, has a Cafe, Club, Wine Shop, Wine Bar, Garden, Gallery and serviced appartment - so it is a bit more than a "small tea shop that could look any other" in West London. Please take the time to visit and we can show you around. Very Happy

To be honest when I first saw the picture I assumed it was just an average tea shop that was chosen because of the array of tea pots decorating the front (to go along with the band's name in K-ON: After School Teatime)

Glad to hear that the Troubadour has an extensive musical history as well. Also very cool that someone close or affiliated with it took the time to enrich us as to its background.
