Now this is great news, now the question is will it be subtitled/dubbed deal. Since I've never seen 'Astro Boy' from that time period I don't know if it was ever released here domestically. I only know 'Kimba' was.
Now if only someone would release 'Kimba' properly then that would be another good deal. Since 'Rhino Records' has seemed to have dropped the title from their production. |

Wonder if it will be the version shown on US TV back in the 60's or if it will be the original Japanese version.

Any chance of a properly subtitled edition of the 2003 version? I know that the DVD box set released here is English dub only.

If TRSI still holds the rights to 1963 Astro Boy, then why does it say "licensed expired" next to The RightStuf International and is currently licensed by AnchorBay?
Oh, and Kimba the White Lion (1965) is licensed by MediaBlasters, not TRSI. |

Pretty simple mix-up here, I think. The 1963 Astroboy rights are held by Right Stuf. Anchor Bay's got the rights to the 1980 Astroboy series by proxy, since they own Manga Entertainment.
And what's the release date for Manga's Astroboy (1980) complete collection, you ask? November 22, 2005. ;) Kimba's licensed by the Right Stuf. With both that and Gigantor, the studio subcontracted Rhino to handle the DVD release. Media Blasters has the rights to the 1996 Jungle Emperor Leo feature film. |

All I wanna know is if Kimba is going to be uncut and in Japanese and if Astro Boy is going to be in Black and white. I also wanna know if both shows will be uncut.

Seeing as one episode doesn't have a Japanese master anymore, there won't be a fully subbed release... unless they decide to drop that one completely.
A 40 year b&w anime will sell if they target the nostalgia market, so taking both these factors in mind, it'll be the dubbed version. Of course, they might consider to redub it and make the original audio available as a second track. |

I'd definitely buy the latter, but not the former. While I most definitely would like to see it in Japanese, I'm shallow and like my pictures colourised. |

Hmmph, didn't think Manga was into releasing TV titles. Most of the stuff they released in the early years were mostly movie titles. Like 'GITS' and 'Ninja Scroll: The Movie'.
I'm often baffled. Funny thing is I haven't seen much stuff coming out of them lately. Maybe I just haven't looked their way enough. |

Manga doesn't usually release TV series, but it's not without precedent. They released the "Street Fighter II V" TV series back in the late '90s, and they're currently putting out "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex." And yeah, Manga has been awfully quiet of late with new releases. As far as I can remember, the only things they've put out in the last year or so are "GitS:SAC" and "Dead Leaves."

They were quiet last year because of the fact that they were changing hands to different companies, I believe.
