So, this will be ANN's first real venture into Japanese culture outside of entertainment right? Should be a worthwhile read.

Maybe you guys should talk to a bunch of different people about this, though.
I don't ever feel that just visiting somewhere on a tour really gives you any idea of what it is actually like, something that you'd only really get from living there for a period of time. |

Tourism could loosely be considered entertainment, I guess. It really looks like ANN is becoming more of a (for lack of a better term) "professional" news site as opposed to the typical RSS feed with massive compendium and Reviews. |

Sounds like cool column, I hope it doesn't fall apart like the manga review one though.

Right Turn Only (the manga review column) didn't "fall apart"; rather, it was placed on hiatus. In fact, ANN was accepting applications for a new manga reviewer; the deadline was April 15. |

This, to me, is very good news. As an older anime fan (34) I often find that American fans are reluctant to acknowledge the "Japanese-ness" of anime. One of the greatest draws to anime for me is the plunge into another culture. Different myths, unfamiliar puns and values outside of those I was raised with. I like having to research things to fully understand a plot point. It all culminates in a very interactive entertainment experience.

Same here. ![]() Well, since no one bothered to answer my question earlier, I will just have to wait until Wednesday to see who is going to write this new column. ![]() |

Since I'm currently trying to save up for a trip to Japan this column sounds like the perfect thing for me.
