I once thought that Girl Got Game was the funniest, best manga series I had come across. But now, at the present seventh volume, I'm starting to think that it's getting old. While the art HAS changed, it hasn't gotten worse or improved, but the story itself is definitely wearing thin.
For example, the first volume had some basketball. Which was very nice. But later, there's nothing concerning basketball anymore! Except that they still have practices where Aizawa and Chiharu can get into embarrasing situations.
I happen to think that it only gets lamer when they put in the love triangle with Aizawa, Chiharu, and Akari (?)
When will it end? (yes, I know, in 3 volumes, but it is more like an exasperated cry)
Any similar comments, or some on satisfaction, or just anything is welcome. I did like it a lot before, so naturally I would like to know what other people thought of it.

I was going to check it out since it had basketball in it, but from what you said, I think it's better to invest in something else.

Well it IS a shoujo comic. The basketball is more or less just a means to serve up some crazy gender bending romance and drama. In that sense, I think the comic does a decent job. Sure the later volumes aren't as cool as the first few, but I'm still loving it. :)

I agree with you, xjadedragon. I liked it a lot at the beginning and parts of it made me laugh out loud, but it's gotten very dry recently. I think the main problem is the character relationships aren't as fleshed out as I would prefer them to be. I guess I'm looking for romance like I would find in a good shoujo, but it's not defined well enough. Even if the romance isn't that great, I should be able to rely on the comedy, but even that is beginning to seem forced. And the basketball scenes are really nice, but there's not enough of them. Right now it's stuck somewhere in comedy-sport-shoujo limbo.

Well...how was the latest volume?
I felt that it was getting even weirder. I didn't know that typical shoujo manga had weird faces like that. First it was okay but I think the thing is getting old.
But, at least something's happening now, since Kyo dressed as a girl on her date with Chiharu and she got kidnapped by Hamaya. However, I wonder how they will find out...if they ever do.
Isn't it kind of funny how people highlight the spoiler part even if they don't want the story to be spoiled? Sorry for the misuse of the spoiler tag.

Girl Got Game isn't as funny as before, it has had it's best and its worst BUT I think its one of my very favorites I love their situations and the love triangle! Everyone shares different opinions. To me Girl Got Game has been weird from the beginning but I'm loving it ^^ and i'm sure others do too.

I'll admit, it's getting slightly repetitive, but I'm such a sucker for this kind of stuff... Anyway, it's a good, solid shoujo manga; not a masterpiece, but still very entertaining IMO...

At first it was pretty good. I wasn't really expecting entirely too much from the series, but, it had its good points in the beginning. After volume four things started to slowly get worse and worse. I think I read in the back of either four or five that it was supposed to end at volume four.
Also, I don't know if any of the other readers noticed this but, the first shot of Akari topless, he has no scars. Then when he and Aizawa are in that building with the bombs, he becomes topless again and there's a WHOLE bunch of scars. At this point and time in the series, I think the creator is just making it up as she (or he) goes along.
Too bad....so sad....

The mangaka explained this at the end of vol. 7, saying that it only appeared as an emotional symbol of how he suffered. And it's Yura, not Akari (Akari's the annoying girl).

It doesn't make the most of sense, though. It can hardly happen in real life.

Girl Got Game isn't about basketball really. It was never dissapointing to me, I still get sick from laughing at this manga. Sometimes I can't even stand looking at it because it's too funny, but I still like it.

I read the latest volume lately, and I was actually quite pleasantly surprised. At least the comedy is working again. (I still think it could have scrapped the whole Kensuke arc, though.)

When I was reading the posts, I was a bit confused as why you guys kept talking about Akari, because i thought it was a love triangle between Aizawa, Chiharu, and Yura....but I love Girl Got Game and I don't really care if its about basket-ball or not...I so want to know what happens in V.9......
