I guess this is to complete the story that everyone was complaining didn't get finished in the anime.

There's a whole lot of story to finish. Is an OVA going to be good enough?

It could be done in 6 - 45 minute episodes.

Mmm, I'm surprised they didn't go for a second season; they have enough of the manga for one iirc.

Great news, I guess. But I haven't even seen the TV series yet. Any rumors on a U.S. release date yet? I'd rather not have to settle for fansubs.

The TV series is licensed, don't know about the OVA, but more than likely it will be.

Well yeah. I knew it was already licensed by Geneon since the day it started airing. I'm just wondering why it's taking so long, since it took Champloo, like 4 or 5 months. But then again, I guess the Watanabe label made it more marketable .

From what I understand, the manga at this point has far outpaced the anime, thus using an OAV to wrap the series up is going to shorten and mangle the author's original storyline. The series, currently at 26 eps., really does feel drastically unfinished but not, IMO, in a way that can be quickly finished up.
I mean jeez, we start out a few years after the big hoo-ha with what's-his-name, then, just as things are getting crazy, take a HUGE break for the very important backstory that is still not resolved and then we are switched a few times back into the present, which we now know is just barely getting rolling. Argh!!! Whatever issues I have with the mangled art of the anime, it's still a surprisingly good story with good characters that make it stand out from other action series.
