I'm pretty sure this is a tabloid.

That's what the WaiWai section of the Mainichi Daily News is for -- it's where you see all the weird and not necessarily true stories. There's even a disclaimer at the bottom: "WaiWai stories are transcriptions of articles that originally appeared in Japanese language publications. The Mainichi Daily News cannot be held responsible for the contents of the original articles, nor does it guarantee their accuracy."
So tabloid? -- You bet!

Well, that explains the incredibly tacky writing. It's given me mental pictures I may never expunge.

Me too.
You know... until a few months ago I lived in Japan. And I read most of the Shojo manga anthologies on a semi-regular basis.
And I never remember seeing anything like that.
So if that girl was reading it... she probably picked up an adult magazine, and then told her mom it was a kids magazine (notice how they didn't put the title of the publication)
But I really hope that this isn't true.

I don't know. A lot of new shoujo manga is getting pretty raunchy. ShoComi's just pages and pages of smut anymore, with Mayu Shinjo and her like. Even Watase's touching on it a bit in ZK.
I don't think it's really well-read by girls in the junior high age group as the article is insinuating, but ShoComi gets passed around a *lot* in high school.

Hm, could this be a twisted attempt by Big Shoujou Manga to increase its overall sales?

Japan doesn't need this addition to its public image, which already suggests a nation full of Humbert Humberts (and has for some years now).

In which case it's a little different. There's a huge difference, at least in my mind between a high schooler and a 12 year old.
Then again, the first time I saw porn, I was like 8, so I shouldn't be too surprised by this.

I agree. What with all the European and English articles on how "Manga and Anime are leading our kids down a moral sewer", something like this just helps to make those articals justified.
Granted, it really only works on the masses that have not seen or read Anime or Manga. I am sure there are some mangas out there like that, but I do not think they are targeted at 12 year olds (But hey, I could be wrong.)

And this is some prime material for the most rabid anti-porn crusaders, whose platform is that porn, rather than being aimed at entertaining adults, is focused on corrupting children.

well considering This is the country that puts out a lolita antholgy Manga called comics LO with some damn hysterical warnings on the covers ("lolita is crime please enjoy in comic only").
I think she just picked up something like that instead of a shoujo manga.

I think we need to keep the source in mind. As pointed out before, this is a tabloid story indended to be rather sensationalist. (I mean, check out some of the other MDN WaiWai articles.) It's got the standard mixture of titillation and moral outrage -- I would put little to no stock in the truthfulness of the story.

Based on the probable aims of the story, I think this article shows that there such people over in Japan as well.

As some other folks are saying, I wouldn't take this too seriously given the source.

I'm guessing that it was actually a doujinshi of a shojo manga.

Yes, it's tabloid. However it's more tabloid in the sense of hawking the sleaze and sensational than in the sense of "Batbaby Discovered." The kind of thing not included in the slogan "All the news that's fit to print." This is the kind of article that a mainstream newspaper would reject for luridness.
Still, a lot of manga over there that doesn't make it over here can be pretty bad, and it's been reported that some of the more graphic manga are aiming for lower age groups (I mean, Go Nagai got in trouble with Shameless School, not over the content, but the age group he targeted with that content.)
