But yeah, I can't see it that small either, so a bigger picture would be great. |

Column by column:
1. US Navy equivalent ranks (this is in English!) 2. Japanese Navy / JSMDF ranks 3. Dress uniform a. shoulder insignia b. collar insignia 4. "Normal suits" (I have no idea what it is; probably similar to khaki service uniform of US Navy?) a. shoulder insignia (?) -- too fuzzy b. collar insignia (?) -- too fuzzy 5. Same as 3. but of 0083 instead of 0079 |

Just for your information.
Perhaps you mean JMSDF? Actually, terms related to ranks which were used in Japanese Navy and those which are used in Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force are somewhat different. For example, 'captain' in JMSDF is '1佐', not '大佐'.
'Normal suit' is a term used in the diégèse of Gundam, and it means 'space suit'.

Thanks for your additional info. Yeah, I should have noticed those were IJN and not JMSDF ranks.

Since we're nitpicking, I'd like to point out that we're not speaking French here, but English -- and, in English, diégèse is called diegesis. - abunai Futility is resistant. Prepare to be dissimulated. |

Thank Very Much everybody! This is the largest image I could make up, sorry, since it is a small book. Unfortunately, I do not read Japanese, enough learning English... Anyways, I am big military type sci-fi anime Fan, especially interested in these of rank insignias and uniforms. I am wonder though, is there any mention of AEUG or Titans, and is this supposedly be a chart of the evolution of the Federal Space Force from 0079 till 0100's or so?
Thanks again, Zibster! |

It's a pleasure. Also, in Japanese Navy, petty officers were basically '兵曹', not '軍曹', '伍長' and the like. So it seems that the person who had written the table which Lord_Ziba showed us had used both navy terms and army terms in the table.
I occasionally write 'diegesis' as 'diégèse'. If you mind it, please read it as diegesis in your mind. By the way, I have heard that you are not currently particularly active in the forums. I'm sorry to trouble you, but, at this occasion, may I again ask you this question about when the sumptuary law in question was enacted? animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=984285#984285 animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=985208#985208 |

Hi guys, oh, I should mentioned before, yes, indeed those insignias based on the IJN rank system, not JSDF. Regardless, I have one more link: http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/96/l_f824d0c587db44adad3a285d1f6939f6.jpg I hope this one helped more!
Thank you again, Zibster! |
