If you have any idea of what i'm talking about that'd be super awesome. Thanks so much.

That sounds like Lensman to me. At least that's what I think based on the underlined description and the fact that I too remember watching it on Sci Fi early Saturday mornings...

I recall an old anime I watched as a kid, but I can't quite seem to remember the name, hence the thread. From what I can remember, there are three main characters. A bounty hunter, I think, who travels with a girl who inherited a space ship from her grand/mother. And there's also a hologram in the ship that looks like a maid. I remember two scenes from the anime, one where the girl was being sold as a slave, and another where the hologram turned fat due to some error in the ships data banks so she couldn't go out of her room. I apologize if this isn't enough to identify the anime.

I have a general question. What are the ways to reinburse for torrent-downloaded anime? Do the money from actually buying the BD/DVD go to the authors? Because I heard that they don't get royalties, only receive one-time payments for licenses. And is there a worldwide list of official distributors? Because here, in Moscow, you never know.
Thanks!

First off, no. There is no method of reimbursement for studios when you download from torrents. As far as licenses goes, it depends on the deal. Some licenses are one time deals. Others work on a yearly or X number of years deal. Some work on a royalty system where the licenser buys the license for an amount and then parts of their continued sales go back to the original holders up until a certain amount is made. From then on, the revenue goes to the distributor for that region or whomever bought the licenses for that region. Other work on a hybrid form of those licenses. So it depends.

BUT on that same argument you might be making, downloading straight from torrents or illegal sites almost assures that NO money gets back to the studio or company that created the series you enjoy. At least actual sales 1) have a chance of feeding back to those studios depending on the contracts and 2) the sales numbers will show companies and studios that "Hey people like this show and not just because they got it for free off of the internet! We should make more shows like this."

With that being said, anime fans understand why people torrent. Poor college kid, no legal sources in your region etc etc. Just when you can, support the series you really like if possible by buying DVDs, memberships to legal streaming sites or whatever. But not DVDs from Hong Kong! Those don't tend to support the studios either. Except for like EVA movies I hear.

How in the world did they survive the heat and humidity in the summer?

Good question.... but I can tell you that the kimono used (uchigi) in the many-layered female dress were usually unlined in summer.

Still, you're right -- I can't imagine a hot, humid summer in Heian-kyo (Kyoto) wearing all that fabric.

On the other hand, I've worn formal three-piece suit and tie in tropical climate, and when the occasion demands it, one can withstand a surprising amount of discomfort. It's all a matter of willpower.

Yeah, I understand that torrents undermine the actual authors' work. That's why I felt responsible for making up for that.

That totally makes sense. Thanks! Smile

Can anyone explain to me how the sleeves of an outer robe like, say, InuYasha's or Sai's (and practically everyone else's on this page), are attached?

They were sewn on the back portion of the coat.

It depends. There were some types of clothing which had those 'slits'.

I have seen 'dog-ear' cases.

Hi all. I was recently browsing a UK site called theHut (no, this is not an ad) and on a link to their 'other studios' section in the anime section was a, well, an unknown anime. I've taken a screen grab and circled it. It looks sort-of Samurai Jack but.. that doesn't seem right. Thoughts?

Well, there's only 36 titles in their "other studios" section and some of those are live action. That said, I can't figure out which if any of the titles it may have come from, although I know the ones it definitely doesn't which may narrow it down.
Mind you, their anime page banner does include the FF X-2 logo, Yuna and an image from Blood+ (which hasn't been released in the UK).

I need help finding the title of an anime movie. It begins with a girl being held captive by some voice/unknown dark form. The girl keeps telling the voice/unknown dark form that this guy is coming to rescue her, but the voice/unknown dark form keeps saying that he is not going to rescue her. Finally the guy comes and rescues the girl and gives some kind of motivational speech, which leads into the title sequence with images of space. Any help would be apriciated.

It may not be obvious from context, but I was referring to the female many-layered dress as court clothes, though the word "ceremonial" was, I agree, misplaced. I was not referring to the male-pattern dress with the slashed sleeves.

I am NOT trying to ID a particular show; what I am TRYING to do is ID a particular posting/thread. There was this discussion of FLCL's meaning and someone posted a link to an essay on Adult Swim that discussed the various themes and meanings of the show. I am trying to find that essay's URL -- thus far to no avail (I'm sorry, but I don't remember what year the post was made). The forum search function is useless as it literally presents HUNDREDS of posts for review and I simply don't have the patience which is required in order to go through them all without my brain going through a meltdown.

So you want US to go through the hundreds of post of reviews?.... 20 bucks. No wait. 50 bucks.
