Thanks as usual, Thhyon. Very impressive ratings for Noitamina and even more the KimiTodo reruns. These are high enough to pull in bona fide outside advertisers (as opposed to members of the production coalition "buying" advertising time on their own show) if they could maintain the numbers.

However, it also highlights the relative lack of correlation between ratings and the traditional main source revenue for late-night anime, DVD/BD sales. Despite the high ratings, Shiki Vol 1 sold a grand total of 606 copies in its first week, which puts it in the worst level of fail - the rule of thumb for late-night anime is that about 5000 copies per volume is needed to recoup production costs. Since the majority of late night anime DVD/BD sales typically come in the first week, if the numbers indicated are correct, Shiki Vol 1 will struggle to sell much more than 1000 copies total. Kuragehime is still in its first cour, so the BD/DVDs are not out yet, but I hope it will do better.

But the high ratings kind of turn things on their head, since they meanl that actual broadcasts could generate serious revenue for the producers - what a concept.

Also interesting that Star Driver gets a kid's time slot. It is superficially mecha, but as much of a mecha show aimed at young boys as Nanoha was a mahou shoujo show aimed at young girls. IF 2ch threads indicate anything, it is the breakout show of the season . . . among anime otaku.

Thanks for the expanded ratings back to the start of the Fall season! I was wondering how my favorites (Zakuro mostly, but also Bakuman and TWGOK) were doing. Zakuro seems to be holding its own among the late-night newbies, though Shinryaku! Ika Musume seems to be a tad stronger with the later eps. The two seem to be among the strongest of the late night shows. Since they air back-to-back, that is a nice block for TV Tokyo. I don't know what they look for in a late night series in terms of ratings, but there are only a couple of shows doing better in that time slot on any night, and none on Monday night that are even on the list...

I do wonder what happened to Bakuman? It opened strong, then dropped off the lists altogether. I really like the show, but it doesn't have a whole lot of action. (Kind of like the complaints the editor has about Takagi's writing style: too much like a light novel... It is a great story, but may not translate to anime very well...) I hope it does well enough to get another season, because there is no way they can do the story justice in one season! Otherwise, it will end up in the "coulda been great if given enough time" pile...

I was quite surprised that TWGOK is running as low in the ratings as it is. I figured that to be a hit, even in a late night time slot.

I'm surprised Major made it in the Top 10 this time around, especially since it's a rerun. Heck, I thought ratings from NHK-E don't count, based on the ratings info I've read in the past.
