TAMPA BAY, FL, May 20, 2004 – AnimeMetro is pleased to announce voice actors Luci Christian and Doug Smith and ADR Directors/Producers Don Rush and David Williams will join Greg Ayres, Katie Bair, Robert and Emily DeJesus, Vic Mignogna, Christopher Patton and Monica Rial as special guests at METROCON 2004.
The Tampa Bay, Florida-based anime convention is scheduled for July 9-11, 2004, at the Crowne Plaza - Tampa at Sabal Park, 10221 Princess Palm Ave. The guests will participate in panels and special events throughout the weekend.
Luci Christian is a relative newcomer to anime – last year's METROCON was her convention debut! – but her professional background is extensive and includes a Master's in Acting and appearances at the John F. Kennedy Center and Houston's Alley Theater, as well as work in television, film and radio. These experiences have prepared her for voice roles as diverse as Kaname Chidori in Full Metal Panic!, Ran Kotobuki in Super GALS!, Yukari Tanizaki in Azumanga Daioh, Sasshi in Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Himeno in Pretear, Luna in Gravion, Dejiko in Digi Charat and Sarah in Kaleido Star. METROCON 2004 will be Christian's second appearance at the convention.
Don Rush is an ADR Director with ADV Films' Houston-based studios and has directed the English-language versions of fan favorites including Azumanga Daioh (due this summer), Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Full Metal Panic! and Neo Ranga. This will be Rush's second appearance at METROCON.
Doug Smith is a Texas-based actor and artist who has been voicing titles at ADV Films for several years, most recently at their Austin-based Monster Island studios. In addition to his well-known portrayal of Kintaro Oe in Golden Boy, Smith can be heard as Doria and Pasta in Steam Detectives, the title character in Dragon Knight, Roger in Plastic Little, Kijima in Blue Seed, and as various characters in series such as Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040, Sorcerer Hunters, Those Who Hunt Elves and more. METROCON 2004 will be Smith's first Tampa convention appearance.
David Williams is an ADR Director and DVD Producer for Houston-based ADV Films. A long-time fan who has been with the company since his living room was used as the production facility for its first show (Devil Hunter Yohko), he has directed a variety of projects including Angelic Layer, Pretear, Najica, the original Nuku Nuku OVAs, Dirty Pair and more, including the upcoming Aquarian Age. METROCON 2004 will be Williams' first-ever appearance at a Florida anime convention.
METROCON is a weekend-long celebration of the numerous facets of Japanese popular entertainment – from anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), J-pop and J-rock (Japanese pop and rock music, performed by “idols”) to cosplay (costume design and performance) and video games. More than 1,600 Japanese animation fans turned out for 2003's inaugural event, establishing a new, first-year attendance record for Florida anime conventions.
This year's events are scheduled to include: - The second edition of the “Anime Idol” J-Pop/J-Rock Competition; - An art show and Artists' Alley; - A cosplay competition and a runway-style costume contest; - A dealers'/exhibition room; - “DDR Extreme” Tournaments;
- An Anime Music Video contest; - Panels with North American anime industry guests; - Dances, including the Final Fantasy Ball – Year III, and karaoke; - The METROCADE video game room; and last – but certainly not least – 212 continuous hours of Japanese animation and related programming.
