Nippon TV Buys Hulu Japan Streaming Service
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Nippon TV settled its deal to buy the Hulu Japan streaming service on Friday. The television station is expected to complete the acquisition of Hulu Japan in early spring, marking its foray into the subscription video on demand market.
Hulu launched in Japan less than three years ago and has doubled its subscribers in the last year. Nippon TV plans to add its programming to the service while maintaining Hulu Japan's current offerings.
The Hulu service as a whole was previously put up for sale but stakeholders The Walt Disney Co., NBCUniversal, and 21st Century Fox chose not to sell video streaming service.
