Sword Art Online
Sword Art Online adapts Reki Kawahara's (Accel World) light novel series of the same name. The story revolves around a boy named Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya who enters a virtual-reality, massively multi-player online (MMO) world called "Sword Art Online." There is no escape from this world unless the player clears the game, but "game over" means the death of the player.SAO was produced by A-1 Pictures under the direction of Tomohiko Ito (Occult Academy) with art direction by Takayuki Nagashima and Yūsuke Takeda (Giant Robo, Eden of the East) and music by Yuki Kajiura (Fate/Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Magica).
Since the 26 episode series conclusion, Madman Entertainment has streamed the entire series through their Screening Room and have started to release the series to DVD with a Blu-Ray release planned in the near future.
The series has also spawned an additional Christmas episode called Sword Art Online: Extra Edition which encompasses a clip show and additional adventure with the cast in Alfheim. The follow on, Sword Art Online II that will continue to follow the plot of the light novels was announced after the airing of Extra Edition in December.
