Actor James Avery Passes Away

Actor James Avery passed away Tuesday evening due to complications from open heart surgery. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star was 65. Avery was perhaps best known for starring on the sitcom opposite Will Smith as Uncle Phil. He starred in voice acting roles including as Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, James R. 'Rhodey' Rhodes in the Iron Man animated television show, and as Boss Fang in Fist of the North Star.

He also voiced roles on the Beauty and the Beast, The Real Ghostbusters, Aladdin, Pepper Ann, The Legend of Tarzan,, and The Legend of Prince Valiant animated series.

Avery is survived by his wife Barbara Avery, his mother Florence Avery, and his stepson Kevin Waters.
