'Hentai' Anime Episodes Banned in Russia as Child Pornography
posted on by Karen Ressler
Starting in April, the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications received complaints of alleged child pornography about 13 anime episodes on the Russian social network Vkontakte. After evaluating the situation and bringing in outside experts, the service declared that the anime in the "hentai" genre is child pornography. Under last year's "About Child Protection from Information Harming Their Health and Development" law, such material must therefore be banned from hosts and service providers.
When investigating the social networking site, the experts found 13 episodes portraying children ages 14 through 18 in "pornographic" scenes. Furthermore, they found no "storyline and any cultural or historical value."
