On Monday April 22, Manga Entertainment will release the feature film adaptation of Yuji Iwahara's King of Thorn science-fiction action manga. There will be both a DVD edition and a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack (pictured). Director Kazuyoshi Katayama and Sunrise's film follows Kasumi, a girl who was infected by a pandemic virus along with her twin sister Shizuku. Kasumi — but not Shizuku — was chosen to be among 159 other people who were placed into cryogenic suspension until a cure is found. The sleepers wake to find the castle infested by fantastic monsters, and Kasumi must survive while trying to find out what happened to the world and her sister.
Manga Entertainment is also releasing the second volume of Tiger & Bunny (left) as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, containing the next six parts of the series. The anime centres around heroes for hire — super powered beings known as NEXT who wear sponsor logos while fighting crime on live television. Manga artist Masakazu Katsura (Video Girl Ai, DNA², I''s, Zetman), a well-known fan of Batman and other superhero comics, created the original character designs.
MVM Entertainment is releasing the 12-part action-supernatural series Ga-Rei: Zero in a single DVD box-set (right). From the Anime-On-Line synopsis: "Kagura and Yomi may look like ordinary school girls, but these sword-toting sisters are part of an elite counterattack unit that specializes in suppressing outbreaks of supernatural activity."
