Ring & Grudge Films' Oz Productions to File for Bankruptcy
posted on by Egan Loo
The Bunka Tsūshin website reported that Oz Productions, the company founded in 1989 by leading horror film producer Takashige Ichise, has decided to file for bankruptcy. Oz produced the Ring (Ringu) and Grudge (Ju-on) horror film franchises in Japan, and he also branched into other genres, such as The Princess Blade (2001) film adaptation of Kazuo Koike and Kazuo Kamimura's historical manga Lady Snowblood (Shura Yukihime).
Ichise also co-produced the American remakes of his films, and he opened an Ozla Pictures company in Los Angeles. However, Takashige Ichise's personal website and the websites for Oz and Ozla are all offline. Bunka Tsūshin reports that Ichise does not have the funds to formally file for liquidation for Oz Productions.
Other films that Ichise produced include the 2009 fantasy film Goemon, the 2010 Japanese remake of the American film Ghost, the 2002 horror film Dark Water, and the upcoming 7500 film from Grudge director Takashi Shimizu.
