Red Riding Hood Cha Cha Manga Returns as Monthly Series

The July issue of Shueisha's Cookie magazine is announcing on Saturday that Min Ayahana is relaunching her most well-known manga series, the shōjo fantasy comedy Red Riding Hood Cha Cha (Akazukin Cha Cha). The full-fledged monthly Red Riding Hood Cha Cha N (Akazukin Cha Cha N) series will start in the next Cookie issue on June 26 — 12 years after she initially ended the story.
The original Red Riding Hood Cha Cha series ran in Shueisha's Ribon magazine from 1992 to 2000, and Shueisha published 13 compiled book volumes. The story followed the daily slapstick adventures of a budding magician named Cha Cha, her childhood friend Riiya (who happens to be a wolf boy), and a magician's apprentice named Shiine. The friends study at the urara Academy in a magical land.
The manga inspired a loose 1994-1995 television anime adaptation in which Cha Cha could transform into a Magical Princess during the first year of episodes. (Shingo Katori of the popular idol group SMAP voiced Riiya.) A three-episode 1995-1996 original video anime project came after the television series.
Ayahana already created two Red Riding Hood Cha Cha N one-shot manga last year. In those manga shorts, Cha Cha finds herself living in modern Tokyo. The full-fledged monthly Red Riding Hood Cha Cha N series will also be set in Tokyo.
