Xenon's Kanzaki to Launch New Masked Ninja Manga
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The June issue of Akita Shoten's Play Comic magazine announced on Wednesday that Masaomi Kanzaki (Xenon, Street Fighter II, Shogun Cop) will launch the Kamen no Ninja Akakage Remains (Masked Ninja Akakage Remains) manga in the magazine's next issue. Based on the original Kamen no Ninja Akakage manga by the late manga creator Mitsuteru Yokoyama (Tetsujin 28 Gou, Giant Robo), the series will debut in the magazine on May 25.
The title character will receive an updated character design with new equipment in the new series. The ninja battle story will revolve around the original manga's conflict between Akakage and Genyousai Kouga.
The July issue of Play Comic will also bundle a compiled booklet of the first four chapters in Yokoyama's original manga. Kamen no Ninja Akakage premiered in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 1966. The series has already inspired a 1967 live-action special-effects television series, a 1969 live-action film, a 1987 television anime series, and the 2001 live-action film Red Shadow: Akakage.
