Chatmonchy Drummer Kumiko Takahashi to Leave Band
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The all-female Japanese band chatmonchy announced on Friday that drummer Kumiko Takahashi is leaving the group at the end of September. The band performed the opening theme songs for Princess Jellyfish ("Koko Dake no Hanashi") and ending themes for the Bleach and Hataraki Man anime. Takahashi's fellow performers are vocalist/guitarist Eriko Hashimoto and bassist Akiko Fukuoka.
Takahashi said, “I'm losing my power to move forward with music. That's fatal to creating new music, and with the gap between me and Ecchan and Akko-chan's passion, I couldn't create new songs while lying about my feelings.” Takahashi said she has not decided what to do, but that it will involve working with words.
The band's last performances as a trio will be on September 25 as part of TV Asahi's Dream Festival! at Tokyo's Nippon Budōkan and on September 29 at Club Grindhouse in Tokushima. After Takahashi leaves, Hashimoto and Fukuoka will continue as a duo.
