Toronto Comic Arts Fest Head to Speak on Manga Censorship
posted on by Daryl Bunao
Toronto-based bookstore Beguiling Bookstore will be hosting a discussion panel called "Censoring Manga for Fun and Profit" on Wednesday, February 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Lillian H. Smith Library. This event will feature bookstore manager and Toronto Comic Arts Festival organizer Christopher Butcher.
The panel will explore topics beyond translations, localizations, and visual touch-ups, which are necessary processes when companies distribute Japanese manga volumes for international reading. Butcher questions what happens when these processes interfere with the work's original artistic integrity and how fans can fight against translation violations.
The event is free to attend; however registration is required either in person or over the phone by calling 416-393-7746.
