Laputa, Yamadas BD Confirmed to Have 6-7 Dubs, Subs

posted on by Egan Loo

Walt Disney Studios Japan has announced the details of its December 22 Blu-ray Disc releases of Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky Laputa and My Neighbors the Yamadas film on Friday. The Laputa Blu-ray Disc will contain soundtracks in Japanese, French, German, Korean, Cantonese Chinese, and Mandarin Chinese. (The Japanese track will be in 2.0ch surround/lossless DTS-HD master audio, while the other tracks will be in Dolby Digital 2.0ch.) The disc will also have Japanese, English, French, Korean, Traditional Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), and Finnish subtitles. The Dolby Digital 5.1ch English-dubbed version of the film (with Japanese subtitles) will be a separate video extra. Composer Joe Hisaishi had personally recorded new music for the North American English release of Hayao Miyazaki's film.

The video extras on the Laputa Blu-ray will also include the storyboards — which can be played in a picture-in-picture (PIP) simultaneously with the film itself — as well as the recording script, the credit-less versions of the opening and ending sequences, trailers, TV commercials, and promotional videos.

The Yamadas Blu-ray Disc will contain soundtracks in Japanese, English, German, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese. (The Japanese track will be in 2.0ch stereo/linear PCM or 5.1ch/lossless DTS-HD master audio, while the English and German tracks will be in Dolby Digital 5.1ch. The Korean and Chinese tracks will be in Dolby Digital 2.0ch surround.) The disc will also have Japanese, English, French, German, Korean, and Traditional Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) subtitles. The video extras will include NTV's Super TV Jōhō Saizensen "making-of" special (about 45 minutes long) on Isao Takahata's film, storyboards, the recording script, trailers, TV commercials, and promotional videos.
