Fushigi Yûgi Manga Gets Stage Play Green-Lit
posted on by Egan Loo
The official website of Shogakukan's Monthly Flowers magazine has announced on Wednesday that a stage play adaptation of Yuu Watase's Fushigi Yûgi adventure romance manga has been green-lit. The play will run in Tokyo's Nakano The Pocket theater from October 20 to October 24. Actress Mao Miyaji (live-action Attack No. 1) will lead the cast, and Shintarō Sugano is writing and directing the play.
The October issue of Monthly Flowers will provide more details on the play on August 27, followed by a feature in the November issue on September 28.
Viz Media published the original Fushigi Yûgi manga and Watase's Absolute Boyfriend manga series in North America, and it published the ninth and most recent volume of the Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden spinoff last November. Watase just restarted Fushigi Yûgi: Genbu Kaiden in the Monthly Flowers spinoff magazine Rinka in Japan last month after a two-year hiatus. Pioneer (later renamed Geneon Entertainment) once released the Fushigi Yûgi anime in North America.
