Japan's Animation Blu-ray Disc Ranking, May 24-30

In one week, Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance's 357,000 Blu-ray sales have already topped all the Blu-ray copies of Michael Jackson's This Is It that have been sold in Japan so far (351,000 copies). Evangelion: 2.22/cite> is also now the top-selling Blu-ray in Japan since Oricon began keeping records in this category in July of 2008. (James Cameron's Avatar film has sold 198,000 copies on Blu-ray in Japan since April.) All told, Evangelion: 2.22 earned 2.21 billion yen (about US$24 million) on Blu-ray and 1.72 billion yen (US$19 million) on DVD for a grand total of 3.93 billion yen (US$43 million) in its first week of sales. The first film, Evangelion: 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone, has also returned to the chart at #4.
May'n Special Concert BD Big Waaaaave!! in Budōkan, the Blu-ray featuring anime theme song singer May'n (May Nakabayashi) debuted at #9.
