Anime Submitted for Oscars
posted on by Christopher Macdonald
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Millennium Actress, Pokèmon Heroes and Patlabor WXIII have all been submitted for Oscars. Additionally, Hollywood Reporter states that "word on the street" is that Cowboy Bebop: The Movie has also been submitted. Each of these films has been submitted in hopes that it will be nominated for the best animated feature at the 74th annual Academy Awards.
In the "It's not anime, but we still care" category, Final Flight of the Osiris is also reported to have been submitted for best animated short.
Although the above films have been submitted for consideration, they may not all be nominated. Some may be found to be ineligible (as Jin-Roh was for the 2002 awards), or others may simply not be found to be worthy of nomination.
In order for the award to be given away, there must be 8 nominees. Other submissions include "Finding Nemo", "Rugrats Go Wild!," "Jungle Book 2," "Piglet's Big Movie," "Brother Bear" and more.
Miyazaki's Spirited Away won the award in 2003.
