Girls und Panzer Collaborates on 6th Ibaraki Blood Drive

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Girls und Panzer is again teaming up with the Ibaraki Prefecture Red Cross Blood Center to promote a blood drive. The anime's characters Miho, Saori, Hana, Yukari, and Mako appear as nurses on promotional posters in blood donation rooms.

The collaboration is running from December 1 to January 31. People who donate 400 milliliters of blood in Ibaraki Prefecture during that period will receive one of two varieties of clear files and a B5-size novelty notebook. Every year the collaboration manufactures special items with new designs, and the clear file and notebook have a new design starting with this blood drive.

This campaign marks the sixth time Girls und Panzer is collaborating for a blood drive in Ibaraki. This year's promotional posters and items ask potential blood donators, "Won't you take up donating blood?" The question is a reference to the anime series, in which the characters tout "taking up tankery."

The Girls und Panzer television series is set in Ōarai, Ibaraki, and the town hosts official Girls und Panzer events every year—one in the spring, and one in the autumn at the annual Angler Fish Festival. The series received the Grand Prize for improving Ibaraki Prefecture's image in 2013. Ibaraki uses the series for various campaigns, including to teach water safety.

The characters of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress helped promote a blood drive at the "Kōtetsu-jō no Utage" (Iron Fortress' Banquet) event in Septemter. Love Live! voice actress Yurika Kubo also collaborated with the Nara Prefecture Red Cross Blood Center in July. Other anime to promote past blood drives include Please tell me! Galko-chan, Yowamushi Pedal, Naruto, Hyōka, Blood-C, and Fate/Zero. Virtual idol Hatsune Miku encouraged blood donation through the Red Cross in 2013.
