Girls und Panzer Gears Up for 3rd Ibaraki Blood Drive
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Girls und Panzer is collaborating with the Japanese Red Cross Society in Ibaraki prefecture for a third time next month. The campaign is using promotional posters of Girls und Panzer characters Miho, Saori, Hana, Yukari, and Mako as nurses, doctors, and patients. Donors who give 400ml of blood can receive posters, pins, and clear files. The campaign will start on August 1 and run until August 31.
The poster reads, "We've taken up donating blood!," which is a reference to the series, in which the characters tout "taking up tankery."
Ibaraki is home to the town of Oarai, the setting for the Girls und Panzer television series and home of multiple official Girls und Panzer events held in the city every year—one in the spring, and one in the autumn at the annual Angler Fish Festival. The series was awarded the Grand Prize for improving Ibaraki Prefecture's image in 2013. The city continues to use the series for other campaigns, including water safety.
The Red Cross also regularly collaborates with Comiket to give away goods to donors at the event. The recent winter event gave away exclusive posters featuring characters from Yowamushi Pedal, Rage of Bahamut, Kaitō Tenshi Twin Angel, èstciel's Kaleido Eve, and Minato Carnival's Ane Shouji Naoko to Gin'iro no Shinigami anime and games.
