Just watched this one at a theater tonight with my wife, aside from one other guy the entire theater was absolutely deserted. I... kind of see why this one is a pretty esoteric film and it got like no marketing that we could see. I enjoyed it well enough and it was certainly interesting, but I definitely understand it not having the draw of other animated movies. I would not take young kids to it if I'm being perfectly frank.

Really, really charming film. I can see why they brought Keiichi Suzuki on board to compose, the movie has a Mother-like mundane sense of humor and cavalier portrayal of darker topics. Even to the point of spoiler[having an unexpectedly scary bit with Enma] at the end. I think kids could grok with it despite the overall leisurely pace and stark grimness of the film.

I'd love to see the reference footage, the scene of spoiler[Anzu going ballistic about his bike and tearing up the room] made me bust up laughing.
