That’s very sad; now that I think about it, it had been awhile since I heard him in anything.

I haven't seen many series where he had a more prominent role, but he was one of those actors who popped up all over the place playing side characters, and he had a distinctive voice that was easily recognizable. I knew him best as Amarao from FLCL (What about...eyebrows?) and the Anti-Spiral from Gurren Lagann. Rest in peace.

This is sad news. I remember him most from Rurouni Kenshin as Hoji Sadojima, as well as Amarao. But he was kinda everywhere as long as I've been listening to dubs.
He actually replied to one of my posts on the [as] boards about the outstanding work everyone on FLCL did, which made me very happy. I replied back but he misunderstood my reply (which I can't remember anymore) and took it as an insult instead of the praise I'd intended. I tried to clarify that, but he never came back to read it I guess. I always felt bad about that.
His talent will definitely be missed.

Man, I watched Digimon religiously back in the day. It was probably the first real serialized narrative anime I watched. And I thought (well, still think) MagnaAngemon was like, the coolest one. This one stings. RIP to a great

RIP to one of the greats! Side characters are very important. They do a lot of heavy lifting for stories and he was the best IMO.

Always remembered him for Angemon, Amarao, Akuma and Anti-Spiral (4 A's!) way back in the day, but a more recent (well, 10 years ago now) role of his I loved was Straits in Jojo. He put 120% in the screams that character had to do and it was amazingly impressive. He also has such a great little one scene wonder character in Gundam Unicorn as well.
Rest in Peace to a legend.

since Hoji has been a featured character in the past few eps of the new Kenshin, I've been remembering Dave's VA portrayal of Hoji (and Kurogasa) from the original Kenshin dub

It's rough losing one of the voices of my childhood. His portrayal of Angemon still stands out to me even now.
RIP Dave Mallow.
