Moyashimon Live-Action DVD Comes Bundled with Slippers
posted on by Gia Manry
The first DVD volume for the live-action adaptation of Masayuki Ishikawa's manga Moyashimon will ship on December 23. The limited edition version of the first disc will be bundled with a pair of fuzzy slippers depicting the character Lactobacillus yogurti, one of the numerous microorganisms that appear throughout the series. Each of the remaining volumes will have a limited edition with a similar bonus such as a plush A. oryzae fungus toy. Moyashimon revolves around an agricultural university freshman who can see and communicate with microorganisms.
Ishikawa's manga debuted in August of 2004 in Kodansha's seinen anthology Evening. In 2007, the manga was adapted into a TV anime which aired during Fuji TV's prominent late-night Noitamina slot, and in 2008, Del Rey licensed the original manga.
In 2009, Evening announced that a live-action series based on the manga will be the first live-action series to air during the Noitamina block. The show is currently being simulcast by Funimation as part of its deal with Fuji TV to legally stream the Noitamina block.
The Moyashimon anime adaptation remains unlicensed in North America.
