Toshimichi Mori defends 2D, anime-style games
The Japanese gaming site 4gamer asked BlazBlue producer, director, character designer, and writer Toshimichi Mori in a July interview about whether he might move into 3D gaming at some point. Mori responded that he loves anime and loves 2D. He then suggested that if Hayao Miyazaki made anime in 3D, he probably wouldn't like it.
Later in the interview, when the subject of 3D came up again, Mori said he would prefer to leave realistic-style art to foreign game makers and said that he was part of the Anime Generation because he was raised watching anime. He also proclaimed 2D and anime fans to be his primary audience:
"I don't really create games aimed at Japan or abroad. I just make them for fans of 2D and of anime. Whether they are Japanese, American, or Korean has nothing to do with it. I wonder why we divide people like that."
Mori has expressed similar feelings in an interview with ANN.
