Trivia:
Miho Obana formulated this story after visiting Okunoshima island (大久野島) near the City of Takehara, Hiroshima Prefecture, the island with a secret chemical plant of poison gas for chemical warfare during World War II (to keep its secrecy, Japanese military even wiped the island off the map back then). The plant used to have many laboratory rabbits as test materials. Today rabbits are everywhere on this island (hence the nickname "usagi shima (うさぎ島)," rabbit island), believed to be the descendants of lab rabbits.
