The original title of Magical Pokemon Journey was derived from the first letters of the main Pokemon's(in the manga) names: Pikachu, Pippi, and Purin.
Grandpa's character design was originally based off of Professor Oak from the Pokemon video games.
"Magical Pokemon Journey" appears in "Ciao," a manga magazine for girls. It is the only Pokemon property that appears to the "shoujo" (girl) market.
