There is no direct formula to get running time from the number of storyboards. An action packed 15 seconds could require many more storyboards than a 2 minute dialog.
But still, in the end, the more storyboards, the longer the movie. At 1400 storyboards, one could guess (this is conjecture, that's why it's not on the news page) that Howl's Moving Castle will be slightely longer or around the same time as the 2h3m Spirited Away.

That would not suprise me, really. I just finished the novel and although I'm sure Miyazaki rewrote it a bit, it seemed to me that it would make quite a lenghty film.
I really want to see it. Even more now. I'm gonna be impatient over this, I just know it.

Yeah, I can't wait for that first battle with the witch. It really is a good book for Miyazaki to animate. I wonder if they might do the sequel (which I have yet to read), if it's good and H'sMC does well.

Howl's Moving Castle Delayed (2003-12-29 01:21:26)
Yahoo News Japan reports that Miyazaki's next movie, Howl's Moving Castle, has been delayed from its planned July release until November. The delay is said to be caused because they are substancially behind in the production. Source: Y! Japan |
The sequel book is Castle in the Air (air, sky - same thing ).
