Yamamoto isn't held in high regards really. He's the butt end of jokes for most english and japanese boards because of his attitude and what he did awhile back to the one seiyu can't remember the name of him but it was cruel hazing what him and the people in on it did. The fact it's being touted as an "original" idol anime just make it more hilarious to people.

Do you mean the Kokoro Connect incident? As far as I can tell, Yamakan had nothing to do with that. That was Takahiro Yamanaka.

What's ironic is the message of the show: if the girls do indeed stand up and wake up, the idols wouldn't be working as workers-for-hire-and-fire with short leash of draconian rules under so-called talent agencies. Instead, they would be working for themselves, and they would hire the agencies.
