Railgun was definitely one of the best animes of the 2009/2010 season when it aired thanks to character developments with the cast, good voice acting and great action scenes.

The first half of Railgun was very enjoyable to me. Sad to say that I can't say the same for the second half. Come to think of it, that's exactly what I thought about Index too (minus the one Biribiri episode in the 2nd half). It'd be nice if JC Staff could actually come up with a product that remains enjoyable throughout its duration. Index 2 failed magnificently but so far Railgun 2 seems to at least be holding up to 'the first half is good' mindset that these shows have induced upon me.
As this is only about the first DVD of Railgun (though the title of the thread is a bit misleading and I suggest changing it to 'Part 1'), I'll simply state that the Level Upper arc was a lot of fun. |

Nah, that comment wasn't referring to who you think it was. Do be clear that this is for the whole series (it doesn't say "DVDs 1 and 2" accidentally), so I was referring to spoiler[the lady who's the scientist's granddaughter and is often encountered in the full powered suit (forget her name)]. On that note, while it says "DVDs 1 and 2" in the thread title and on the side column, for some reason it says "DVD 1 - Season 1 Part 1" in the actual review. [EDIT: Ugh. Fixed. - Key] |

I watched Railgun after watching Index I and II and I have to agree that it definitely is a little different but enjoyable for me even with that slice of lifish feeling. The weaker part would be the antagonists but with the current ongoing Railgun S airing, I think this can be made up if it adapts the manga faithfully.
Railgun still was enjoyable for me although I'm probably going to pass on the dub version. |

I think I'm in the minority that prefers Index to Railgun.
I think a lot of it has to do with how much I love Touma as a character. And while Railgun is written a little better than Index, I prefer the pacing and the separate arcs that Index does. Although Railgun has Saten and now Misaki...I'm torn... I love them both. |

Yeah, those were basically my nitpicks with the dub. Plus, I noticed that all the VA's were using a really strange inflection when saying "Misaka"; once I heard it, I couldn't unhear it. As far as the use of "Sissy" goes, I thought maybe "dearest sister" would be better since Kuroko always refers to Mikoto as "onee-sama". All in all though, the dub is passable enough. |

Reading "sissy" in the subtitles all the time was the only nails-on-a-chalkboard thing for me. Just leave it untranslated, or pick something with the same flavor ("sissy" does not sound even vaguely respectful... I've only ever heard it as a grade-school-level insult. Using it for someone you practically worship is just "whaaa?") Even something as stilted as "my lady" or "my love" would have flowed by easier. |

I stopped reading right there. Umineko was disastrous. I should also mention that spoiler[the game was such a troll fest once Chiru started.]
From a light novel/manga perspective I agree with you. From an anime perspective I continue to disagree. |
