Is this a new fad, or something made up? You never know, much times, truth is stranger than fiction.

Perhaps this is an ode to the 'dead dog' party at the end of some conventions. Though there are no actual dogs, whether living or dead, at the party, which is used for attendees to decompress from the convention excitement.

Is that... a real thing? Oh I hope it's not. But, ummm... I've been on tumblr long enough that I wouldn't be too surprised if it were.

Pretty much how people-watching at cons always goes xD "Well, that's a little weird, but it's awesome that these people have a safe place to experiment and let their freak flag fly! ...Wait, did that guy just...No. Not okay. Nope. Nope. No. Hey, wanna see what's playing in the streaming rooms?"

Oh gawd, that was horrible. Wouldn't be surprised.
I remember when I used to attend "furry" cons. The last one I attended was in Philadelphia. There was one artist (who I know personally); she used to do con reports about the crazy happenings that would go on at furry cons. Mind you she attended them often selling her work. But I remember she was really annoyed when she started seeing "guys" in drag showing up at furry cons. I mean normally you don't see people in cosplay other than the folks in giant furry suits or the occasional "yiffy" guy running around in daisy dukes (and that was another beef another friend of mine had that furry cons also ended up being places for picking up other guys, because the women... JUST WASN'T HAPPENING). But to see guys in drag showing up looking "BUSTED" and they have no affiliation with the fandom presented could annoy some. Which goes back to the whole " --- " thing I mentioned above. Other stranger things were the stuffed toy room. For purchasing stuffed toys. I even heard rumors that some stuffed animal dolls weren't just for snuggling with. You never know. Parties would be held for these events. You'd find guys walking around with stuffed toys strapped to them like a backpack or on them. This was one reason why some who were not 100% furry fans would quit these cons because they would just get downright crazy. Not to mention the question of hygiene Another friend of mine would compare the differences between anime cons vs furry cons. While anime cons can get weird it's no where near what furry cons are. The demographics, the attendees, and the atmosphere; ITS very different overall. But again you still have to be careful of the unsavory types no matter where you go. I've seen furry fans that like anime and I've seen anime fans like furry fandom. But while they cross their interest groups sort of stay within their respective boundaries. You might come across someone cosplaying or wearing a costume that could classify as a possible furry found in anime or sci-fi but you won't find an anime character in furry fandom unless that character is 100% furry. Like Kero-chan vs Greyfas or Crystal from Starfox. But I'd be curious to see other cross overs and how far they go but so far furry fandom has not spilled over into anime fandom. |

Never encountered any dead dogs but, a couple of years ago at AX, I did see a woman who had a cute, little live dog in her bag in the dealer's room.
I hope no one sees any dead ones at cons anytime soon . |

This actually happens.
Except when I saw it, in the dealer's room of a small anime convention, it was a dead coyote, and the person had it laying over his shoulders. Definitely one of the more...interesting things I've seen at a convention. |

Well as long as its properly preserved and stuffed, then it isn't really that much of a problem. Definitely weird though.

Those dead dogs could be props for someone's karaoke rendition of "Dead Puppies Aren't Much Fun." (And yes, that is a real song!)

As I recall that was A Capella, so a karaoke of it might be tricky. But at least they're not doing "Fish Heads." Speaking of comedy songs, I'm reminded of "At the Con by Possible Oscar": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAjhpRCQPz8 I've only been to a couple of cons. One was a business con and the other was a computer con. Neither had people in costumes. Although the computer con was years ago. It had a room just for one for the computer. |
