Saw this awhile ago and the character designs definitely did remind me those from Witchblade.

It was an alright series with the action and ecchi.

Great way to summarize the series. I sampled this title early on by watching the first six or so episodes but the dichotomy between prurience and an actually interesting premise for their combat system was just too much for me to deal with back then. It just felt like a lot of wasted effort.

Several well known voice actors are featured in this as well, so I was a bit taken aback by this seemingly schizoid title. Did they really bring in such big names just to drag them through a title that will be seen by a relatively small audience or were the actors themselves being blackmailed or forced into doing this by some contractual agreement?

In some ways it reminded me of one of Yasuomi Umetsu's uncut works without actually being classified as porn.

Makoto Uno's well known for his ultra voluptuous and hypersexualized character designs. And adding dicks to every single female. I wish him all the luck that he can make his futanari anime happen some day.

I love Qwaser except for when it heads into the serious story bits, it's clearly not cut out to be taken in such a manner and the show's pacing just grinds to a halt in the first season. Though when it's doing fascinating things with chemistry that make sense, it reaches its high points. Though, if you don't enjoy seeing topless women and breast feeding, there's just no point in even bothering. Ridiculous premises like elementals gaining powers through tit-sucking is something I just couldn't possibly pass up, those are the types of shows I'm often attracted to just for being so out there. You really have to enjoy that fetish too, or at least not be bothered by it to make it through. In addition to that barrier, you have a shota and lesbian loli dominatrix as main protagonists. I sure do love what anime and manga can produce.

I really do like Sasha as a protagonist. He's headstrong, intelligent, and apparently oblivious to the feelings of his growing harem, but not in the same dense way. He just doesn't particularly care when higher priorities are on his mind. The marias are basically cattle to the qwasers, but it seems to be an equal gender opportunity endeavor for the ones in control, no instances of male lactation yet (yes, it's possible).

I just wish Sentai had bothered with the BDs here; even if the first season had issues, the second season shouldn't.

Hoods Entertainment, whose other lead credits consist of edgy fare like Aki Sora, Mysterious Girlfriend X, and Manyū Hiken-chō...

One of those titles is vastly unlike the others. Aki Sora has spoiler[incestuous relationships, full sex, and and reverse rape backed up by the threat of emasculation.] Manyū Hiken-chō has spoiler[women cutting one another's breasts off in order to make their own breasts bigger, because they live in a society where the size of a woman's breasts defines her status.] But Mysterious Girlfriend X has no sex and no detailed nudity. It's just a sweet tale of awkward teens trying to understand one another, backed by extremely tasteful fanservice. Even with the drool and the other fetishes in it, I really don't see how it can be compared to the absolutely hardcore stuff present in the other two titles.

I know you probably didn't mean anything by it but I did want to defend Mysterious Girlfriend X from being compared to such titles.

Katja and Hana's connection does not really fit the definition of love, and the Mafuyu-Tomo loving interactions are more sisterly than romantic (though reading more into that would not be hard).

Oh, I'm sure Fencedude5609 and his trusty pair of goggles could read plenty into either relationship.

The opposite is my main problem with the anime. The anime sadly cuts out quite a few of the better manga chapters and events. Katja and Mafuyu's training arc, Lizzie's training arc, a lot of backstory for Katja in general. The second season is even worse, and pretty much goes into filler halfway through. Entertaining filler, but still disappointing. Though it was pretty much caught up with the manga so it had no choice. Overall I love the anime but more for the 'fun, characters doing funny and cool things, fun battles'. It's a bit saddening a lot of the deeper stuff was removed from the manga in translation to the anime. I treat the anime and manga as separate entities and they each offer their own take on the characters. One thing I like about the anime is they have more Miyuri in it and insert her into more scenes than she had in the manga; she was one of my favorites in the show with her ojou laugh and attitude.

If recent trends are any indication, a BD might come out in a year or so.

Miyuri's one of my favorites too, I love those character types. And that reminds me that the show also has a unique feature for ecchi-stuffed series. Even beyond the different breast sizes, they also give each girl a unique nipple design. Most of the Ikki Tousens and Queen's Blades just kind of use the same general art for each girl, but this was a really nice attention to detail that makes me likes Hoods as a studio, even if it's for a aspect that most people would either overlook or shake their heads at. Most hentai, whose job it is to arouse, can't even approach the idea of multiple busts or nipples for different characters.

Gotta point out that the spoiler[breast-lopping is magical, so I guess it's more symbolic of status lost than literally slicing off someone's breasts like it's Candide.] I'm not sure what a real life equivalent would be, but the show does have that underlying social commentary beyond the massive jubblies. It'd be like "what if dick size really did determine power and control?" for males.

Always nice to see the character designers and animators taking so much pride in their work. It's the small details that really helps the audience to immerse themselves in the story.

Katya's explicitly lesbian and in a Dom/Sub relationship with Hana.

Hana's a natural sub, and lolicon to boot, so she's plenty happy with her current life.

As relationships go, Katya and Hana, for all their quirks, really do love each other. (not that that stops Katya from assembling her own harem, but Hana always comes first)

I thought Theron covered this in the review; the title is too niche to justify a dub. Besides, a show like this is going to have a pretty devoted fanbase, so the thinking must be that the lack of a dub isn't going to put them off buying it.
