So what does this mean? Does it have to do with image, with sales, reverse-importation? There has to be a reason, I doubt it's just an arbitrary measure. Unless that's how this business operates.

Well that is disappointing to hear. I was going to buy it since I liked the show. Guess that will not be happening.

last post for a bit it only had a DVD-sub only release so reverse import wouldn't have factored in, if at all. I will just flat out say it, i think it has to do with the loli subject matter and they don't want UN-cut dvd's floating around in the states that might cause a back-lash. Japan wants to play it safe for awhile on that subject/issue.

My understanding was that Blu-Ray sales for the series were horrible in Japan. I assume that the production company is buying back the license to "prevent reverse importation" and ensure they wring every last domestic disk sale out of the property they can.

Sucks for my one friend, who I know was really looking forward to it.

Thats actually quite wrong. It sold an average of 6.5k, which is a solid success.

It can't be reverse-importation, as Sentai was only doing a Sub-only DVD release.

I was thinking that too, and until we hear otherwise, we might as well jump hard to that conclusion and stay there because nothing else will suffice. Unless they say it's just some excuse like a "licensing/business technicality" in the contract, yeah sure okay right. I didn't even watch the series but I'm very interested in why it was pulled in this fashion, and if it happens again to other titles. For example, Haganai's BDs added in some loli nudity, so FUNi has to distribute that on home video.

I don't think there was anything like that in Ro-Kyu-Buu though. I mean, if it were Dance in the Vampire Bund then I could definitely see that argument holding more weight.

That said, this is really peculiar. Sentai seems to be on good terms with ASCII Media Works considering that they were able to snag the Persona 4 license, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

This is quite bizarre, especially considering they are only buying back home video rights. Sentai and Anime Network will still keep streaming and TV rights. I'm curious as to what the issue was, but we will likely never know.

Theres no loli nipples, as far as I know. Most fanservice you'll see is some bath scenes with steam... and theres other stuff released with actual loli nudity like Strike Witches. So I dunno.

Less moe is always a good thing. But it probably means FUNi will get the home vid rights.

Cecil: Most likely, they didn't get the streaming count they wanted to justify taking a risk on a DVD/BD release. I doubt the actual content would factor into it, or FUNi still wouldn't release the unedited Vampire Bund. In fact, I think Sentai was hoping this show could find a cross-over audience Bund wouldn't, since it's not (as) creepy.

Gosh. Well, I stand corrected. Other than possibly thinking they have a more profitable avenue for the series, I can't see what the point is, then.
