It wasn't only Sakuracon that raised the 90000. It was part of the Seattle Japanese Relief group.

The excitement was permeable as Sakura-Con opened its main stage doors to priority seating and press at 9:45 a.m. before allowing the long line of general attendees into the stage area.

What the heck is permeable excitement?

From what I understood, the relief group raised 250,000 based on the relief president speech.

The same site http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/permeable defines "permeable" as
Quote:
Capable of being passed through or permeated, especially by liquids or gases.

So permeable excitement would be excitement that something else can permeate. "Was permeable" is not a synonym of "permeated". But it's no big deal.

Perhaps the author meant the more logical, and common, "palpable excitement"?

I'm not sure I like the idea of a horde of people screaming out "Banzai". It reminds me of the propaganda/historical ww2 videos, only these people were mostly non-japanese so a closer comparison might be the Chinpokomon episode of South Park.

Other than that, it seemed decent enough as an opening ceremony. I'm glad to see that the newish idea of opening ceremonies being theatrical and fun is still going strong. I've been to so many lame opening ceremonies over the years that I rarely attend any now.

Though it's saddening to me that egregious technical difficulties are the norm at cons, regardless of size or venue.
