This is pretty strange. Is this the first instance of Japan getting an english dub before we do?

Interesting. The English dub is actually going to be released in Japan first. I wonder how long until FUNi will release it here.

You would think at least until the Japanese licensor achieves its sales goal of the listed price. Then Funi will be allowed to sell it here for 1/8th of that original box set price.

It would be tempting to get it, but not $400+ tempting.

Is that price right? $470.50 seems a bit excessive for a Blue Ray DvD.

I wonder if the presence of the English dub is really an inducement to anybody in Japan, or just a novelty.

In most markets, it would be, but in Japan, it's not. The Japanese, particularly otaku, seem to put uncommonly little value on consumer surplus.

Putting an English dub on a Japanese retail box, might indicate that there will not be a Western release of Strike Witches 2.

It's news like this why the anime industry will see much, much less of my money in 2012.

For that kind of money they can keep it. I like the show, but not that much. Hopefully, Funimation will still release it with the original voice actors at a more reasonable price.

Well I for one am not going to pay that much for a 12 episode show.

Just hope that when it does come out in the USA, it's not a darn combo pack (keep the DVD & Blu-Ray seperate please!)

Hopefully it's sooner than later...

I do! Which is why I'm upset because all this news did was enforce the fact any BD version of Strike Witches 2 will either be substantially delayed until the format is useless or not coming out at all.

No one here should be the least bit surprised of the hidden message WE'RE TERRIFIED OF REVERSE IMPORTATION, SO SUCK IT, AMERICA!

Sorry for the caps and the bold, but that's exactly how I see the message.

Of course, anyone from FUNimation who posts on this forum is more than welcome to prove me wrong. I'd love nothing more than to eat crow in this regard.

As Funimation already has the license for it, I sincerely doubt that.

"In addition to the simulcast, FUNimation has been awarded home entertainment, digital, broadcast and merchandise rights for the series.

That doesn't prevent them from withholding Blu-Ray rights; Manga UK have been caught out twice - they were not merely intending to release Karas and 5cm/s on BD they were even available to order on Amazon but both ended up "indefinitely delayed". Announcing a licence doesn't mean there won't be huge hurdles ahead - just look at the Geneon mess; it's taken a year and a half till they can even start work on one of them.
