No we'll get a blu ray release. We might have to import it from Japan but we'll get one. It should be noted that the Japanese Ghibli blu rays and dvds all had English subtitles.

Or, it just means that a few rights expired and a couple of lawyers will meet together around the time the Japanese blu-ray gets released to sort things out, and Disney releases their blu-ray as anyone would expect.

Seriously, people. This isn't big news, it's just the same kind of temporary legal snag that happens all the time in the entertainment business and usually goes unreported and gets fixed. There's nothing to worry about.

Nah, I think we eventually will. A lot of the Miramax titles are in flux right now due to the chaos of all the library buy-outs, and Mononoke was a more minor title for them (compared to, say, Shakespeare in Love) so it's not tops on anybody's agenda over there. These things just need some time to sort themselves out.

I highly, highly, doubt the rights have lapsed, as has been speculated elsewhere. Studios are in the business of amassing film libraries, so the license may have even been in perpetuity.

I was hoping that we'd be seeing more US releases of Ghibli titles on Blu-Ray soon, but it looks like it will at very least be a long wait...

I suppose now's the time for me to shell out for the Japanese Blu-Ray.

wonder if another company might swoop in and try to license it, would be funny to see funimation sneak in and grab this title, and redub it,

Suppose I should get a used copy of this before I can't anymore... like Ghost in the Shell Innocence. *sigh* I remember the day I saw it in the store on Blu-ray and decided to wait to buy it. Y'know.. I figured the cheaper the better. That certainly blew-up in my face... Crying or Very sad

Ghibli wouldn't allow that. They only work with companies they could trust, and there are very few. Laughing

Yeah but that would just be them releasing it.
funni would love to get the no cuts kantana. They'd likely end up using it in some silly video like war on pants.
